Vehicle Identification Number & Odometer Verification

This is the dedicated, standalone VIN verification form. It has two parts: an owner's affidavit with the odometer reading (Part A) and the physical VIN verification completed by the notary (Part B).

Use it when:

Your county tax collector asks specifically for a separate VIN/odometer verification
You're titling a used out-of-state vehicle (net weight 2,000 lbs or more)
You need a single document that proves the VIN and mileage were verified

Form HSMV 82040

Application for Certificate of Title

This is the actual Florida title application. It includes a VIN verification section that a Florida notary can complete — so in many cases you won't need a separate 82042. As of 2024 it comes in versions for motor vehicles (82040 MV), vessels (82040 VS), and mobile homes (82040 MH).

Is a mobile notary VIN verification legally valid?

Yes. Under Florida law, a commissioned notary public is an authorized party to perform VIN verification. The documentation is the same legally valid form you would get at a government office.

How much does it cost?

Our fee is $150 for the first vehicle and $25 for each additional vehicle verified during the same visit. There are no hidden charges.

How soon can you come out?

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice so we can dispatch a screened notary near you. In many areas we can accommodate next-day and weekend appointments.

Can you verify multiple vehicles at once?

Absolutely. If you have several vehicles at the same location, we handle them in a single visit at the reduced $25 per additional vehicle rate.

Which form will the notary use — 82042 or 82040?

It depends on what your county tax collector requires. Form 82042 is a standalone VIN and odometer verification; Form 82040 is the title application, which has its own VIN verification section. Tell us your situation and we'll bring and complete the correct one.

How long is the verification valid?

A completed VIN verification is generally accepted for about 30 days, so it's best to submit it to your tax collector promptly after the appointment.

Do motorcycles and trailers need VIN verification?

Yes. Motorcycles, trailers, and other motor vehicles being titled in Florida from out of state typically require the same VIN verification as cars and trucks.

What if my VIN plate is damaged or missing?
